Interned as a UX/UI designer & researcher, conducting user research and redesigning interfaces to improve usability, accessibility, and the overall digital experience for parents.
Kelly wanted me to improve her website so parents could navigate classes and other resources more easily. I used competitive analysis to see how other educational platforms approach navigation, visual hierarchy, and design.
I found that many preferred a minimalistic approach to create a safe place for families to browse. From there, I applied these findings into the website layout.
Conducted competitive analysis and usability evaluations to identify navigation, readability, and accessibility pain points for parents
Redesigned website interfaces and course thumbnails to improve information hierarchy, readability, and ease of navigation
Translated research findings into simplified layouts and visual designs that better aligned educational content with parent needs
I learned what it means to design with both users and business goals in mind. Good design involves more than creating something visually appealing. It requires understanding the audience, researching how similar platforms approach their designs, and thinking critically about how small changes can improve the overall user experience.
A lot of this experience involved trial and error. I worked through initial concepts, made revisions, helped bring the designs to deployment, and checked that everything remained consistent. I especially enjoyed redesigning the class and simulator thumbnails because it gave me more room to experiment creatively while still considering how parents would interact with the website.
Overall, this experience helped me become more confident in my design process and taught me to be more intentional about the decisions I make.
